Ancient Rhossos
The history of Arsuz begins as a port city known as Rhossos in ancient times. Founded by the Phoenicians in the 1st millennium BC, the city was an important stop on Mediterranean trade routes.
Hellenistic and Roman Period
After Alexander the Great's Battle of Issus in 333 BC, the region came under the influence of Hellenistic culture.
Republic Era
With the annexation of Hatay to Turkey in 1939, Arsuz became part of the Republic of Turkey.
